Karen Rifas
Artist Statement
Nature and the environment bring with it an internal world of serenity,
order and peace. In juxtaposition, there is the real world of here and now.
Certain themes and concerns continually surface in my work. Generally, they
reflect my thoughts about the delicate and precarious balance which I find
in life and in nature, in structure and freedom, and in the rhythmic and
chaotic changes that occur in life.
I am seduced by
materials and form
order and chaos
geometry and chance
and my need to take ordinary materials and rearrange them into new contexts.
